It seems a little harsh to give this book one star because the writing is fine. Here is my caveat, I only read a third of the way through this book. It started way to slow for me. The characters never really did anything and the dialogue, though sometimes clever, was not enough to want me to continue reading. This book is suppose to be a cross between paranormal and a mystery. However by page 130 the mystery still had not truly emerged. I am not a great fan of flashbacks and this book was filled with them. I like Lois Greiman and I wanted to like this book, maybe if there wasn't so many other great books to read: I would have given this one more time. Maybe her next book.

Like all the students at Lavender House, Elegance "Ella" St. James possesses special talents; as that is a prerequisite to get into the exclusive school. Readers will be under Lois Greiman's spell as her first Witches of Mayfair historical paranormal romance is an enchanting tale. Ella is a terrific, some might say foolish, heroine who knows what she wants and does not want until the interfering Thomas enters her life. He is heroic as he knows from their first encounter she is the one although she seems to reject him. Combining a delightful romance with a solid murder mystery, a bewitching paranormal element, and plenty of action, UNDER YOUR SPELL is a terrific one sitting read.

i gave up reading this on page 69....this is a truly awful book. don't waste your money. first 69 pages totally confusing and i didn't even feel like skimming the rest of the book to find out what the story was in the first place or how it ends. sometimes i wonder how these books get published; and at a $7 price tag!!
It a good read , how ever , I would like to have had môre of a back ground of her abilities to gage where the story was going.
But I did enjoy the ending. THANks. NADINE
I love the complexities of a Lois Greiman plot and her characters are irresistible for their great humanness; it is so great to share their journey to discover their flaws do not make them unlovable.
I loved this book because it was different and yes, enchanting. The story is unfolded, not told in a straight narrative way. You get a bit of info here and there until the picture comes together. The two main characters, Ella and Drake have a lot of chemistry/magic, their dialogue is witty, sexy and fun. There are several twists that make the story interesting, the romance is sexy and intriguing and the glimpses into Lavender House and Ella's past are tantalizing. Can't wait to read more in this series.
Ok, three shrieks in one brief sex scene in a carriage is three too many. Don't bother wasting your time on this book!
A good story, well written and characters you can and will like. Some of the situations with spells were a little confusing, but the teasing conversations between Drake and Ella were funny and so right for them.
